- A solvent based, general purpose, black bituminous paint for waterproofing and weather protecting steelwork, asphalt and wood, concrete and potable water tanks. When dry it forms an odourless and taint free bitumen film.Multicrete Black Bituminous Paint forms a waterproof, weatherproof, corrosion resistant protective coating. It is resistant to low concentrations of alkalis and acids and can withstand prolonged oxidation. It is suitable for application to a wide variety of surfaces including steel, iron, lead, zinc, aluminium, concrete, stone and brick, and is used mainly for:Metal protection for any type of exterior metalwork - fire escapes, ladders, gutters etc.Protecting drinking water tanks.A protective coating for concrete structures, stone, brick, concrete screeds and sand/cement surfaces.Colour - Black, shiny coating when dry, dulls with exposure to sunlight.Method of ApplicationBy brush or spray, apply evenly and ensure no pooling of solution. A minimum of two coats of Multicrete Black Bituminous Paint is recommended.InstructionsCare needs to be taken over preparation of surfaces before application. All surfaces must be free from oil, dirt, dust and loose debris. On metal surfaces all loose rust should be removed using a wire brush and where advanced signs of corrosion are evident the area be treated with a rust inhibitor. A minimum of two coats of Multicrete Black Bituminous Paint should be applied, the first coat being allowed to dry before the second is applied.Drinking Water TanksSurfaces should be dry and clear of mill scale, rust and dirt. All surfaces should be de-greased immediately prior to application. Brush application is preferred to ensure a thorough coating of all recesses, edges, rivets and bolts. Apply two coats, allowing at least a 24 hour drying period between coats (Drying may be assisted by the provision of a forced air draught). It is important that the first coat is completely dry before application of the second coat.Use clean, uncontaminated application equipment. After the second coat has dried and before the tank is put into service it should be filled with cold drinking water and drained after not less than 4 hours. If a taste is detected in this water, the process should be repeated.Porous SurfacesWhere the surface being treated is porous, an initial coat of Multicrete Primer should be applied.CoverageThe coverage per litre is dependent upon the porosity of the surface. For metals and smooth surfaces 10m² per litre should be attained. On porous surfaces coverage will be considerably less.Cleaning ToolsTools may be cleaned with white spirit. Minor spillages should be wiped off surfaces before the compound has set. Major spillages should be mopped up immediately with an inert, absorbent material, such as sand, and disposed of in accordance with regulations.Storage LifeIndefinite in undamaged, tightly sealed containers. Containers must be kept sealed and stored away from sources of heat and ignition.Health & SafetyMulticrete Black Bituminous Paint is solvent based and gives off an inflammable vapour. The solvent may have a narcotic effect if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. In extreme cases contact with the skin may cause dermatitis. In case of fire use dry powder, carbon dioxide (CO2), foam, sand or earth. Never use water as this may spread the fire. Therefore the following precautions are advised:1. Wear protective clothing2. Avoid smoking, hot lights, naked flames or creating sparks3. Never ingest, wash hands thoroughly before eating or drinking4. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and non protective clothing. Remove skin contamination immediately with a proprietary hand cleaner and wash with soap and water.5. When working with the product, until it has dried, ensure that the area is well ventilated thereby avoiding build up of solvent vapour.6. Do not apply to roof lights, windows, glass or translucent sheets as they will constitute a hidden hazard.SKU: 1097
